Footpath off Pilgrims Way, which eventually links to Abbey Meadows.

Reported via desktop in the Slabs - Uneven / Damaged / Cracked category by Dorothy Moore at 19:55, Monday 10 March 2025

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7257320.

The paving stones are uneven and approx a third of the width of the path is covered with mud and debris. I've watched a lady on a mobility scooter struggle to get through. It has been in this state for over a year.

  • Thank you for bringing your concerns over the condition of the footway in Pilgrams Way to our attention.

Whilst funding for capital maintenance of footways has increased over recent years, it is still insufficient to meet all the needs for repairs across the County. This inevitably means that decisions on relative priorities of repairs needed must be made to make the most effective use of the funds that are available. This is done as objectively as possible, taking into account actual footway condition, usage, and importance, when determining the priorities of maintenance work to be undertaken.

We will give consideration to including this section of footway in the annual Local Transport Plan Capital Maintenance Programme. However, at this stage, we are unable to guarantee that this footway, when considered against all other competing maintenance priorities within the County, will be included in next year’s LTP Capital Maintenance Programme. I can however assure you that if it cannot be included it will continue to be monitored and given consideration when developing future programmes.

In the meantime, the Area Highways Delivery Team will conduct a safety inspection of the footway to identify any necessary remedial work. This will ensure the footway is maintained in a safe condition, in line with our maintenance policy.
