Poor visibility on B6345 to Swarland -with overgrown hedges/tall grass and deep verges
Reported via desktop in the Restricted Visibility / Overgrown / Overhanging category anonymously at 11:55, Monday 12 August 2024
Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6345258.
I travel on the B6345 at least twice a week from Felton to Swarland Village. I am concerned for cyclists/pedestrains and drivers, as there is poor visibility in parts with overgrown hedges/grass/tree branches and some of the the verges are below the road surface. In parts you have to stop to allow oncoming vehicles to pass. There is a lot more traffic on this road and now a new bus service. It looks like someone has made an attempt to fill in some of the low verges with gravel but more needs done.

Northumberland County Council Update-
We have investigated the issue reported and found that it is on private land. However,
we do have powers under Section 154 (1) of the Highways Act 1980, to advise the
owner/occupier of adjoining land they are required to cut back vegetation so as to
remove the cause or likelihood of danger, obstruction or interference to the users of the
Highway (footpath). In most cases the vegetation is cut back very quickly by the owner/
occupier, but in some instances this can be a lengthier process but be assured we will
follow due process to ensure the work is carried out.
Thank you for bringing this to our attentionState changed to: In progress
