Can footpaths be resurfaced and classed as a cycle path.
Reported via desktop in the Surface Condition category anonymously at 09:04, Monday 5 August 2024
Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6316065.
There appears to be a lot more traffic on this road since the speeds bumps were put in place at Bomarsund. Can the footpaths from the Forresters Arms to the Winning crossing and from the crossing to Cambois be relayed (as they are in poor condition) and then the paths classed as a cycle path. It would make travelling to the cycle path at Cambois a lot safer.

Thank you for bringing your concerns over the condition of the footway between West Sleekburn and Cambois to our attention.
Whilst funding for capital maintenance of footways has increased over recent years, it is still insufficient to meet all the needs for repairs across the County. This inevitably means that decisions on relative priorities of repairs needed must be made to make the most effective use of the funds that are available. This is done as objectively as possible, taking into account actual footway condition, usage, and importance, when determining the priorities of maintenance work to be undertaken.
We will give consideration to including this section of footway in the annual Local Transport Plan Capital Maintenance Programme. However, at this stage, we are unable to guarantee that this footway, when considered against all other competing maintenance priorities within the County, will be included in next year’s LTP Capital Maintenance Programme. I can however assure you that if it cannot be included it will continue to be monitored and given consideration when developing future programmes.
Regarding your request to change the footway to a cycle path. As this would be classed as a shared use cycleway, it would require the existing footway to be widened to a minimum of 2.5m to safely accommodate both pedestrians and cyclists.
Given this would require substantial funding above and beyond just resurfacing the existing footway. It would have to be put forward for external funding as part of a potential active travel scheme.
