61 Southward Way - Tree touching house and branches crashing against the side of the house. Has resulted in numerous repairs to ceiling inside the house. Ground is starting to lift due to roots.

Reported via desktop in the Trees damaging private property category anonymously at 14:41, Monday 3 June 2024

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6055858.

The tree which is located next to the property has grown significantly over time. The roots are now lifting the slabs within the garden and the grass adjacent to the house. The tree is touching the property and during increment weather the branches crash against the side of the house, knocking out WiFi and TV signal, which is proving extremely problematic due to working from home and having three children. During the night the children have been woking from the branches hitting against the side of the house. The ceiling within the living room has been repaired (re-plastered) three times in the space of two years due to cracking, the plasterer and a building supervisor has stated this could be caused by the tree crashing against the side of the house. This issue has now been on-going for two years but is now costing a significant amount of money from three repairs to the ceiling, in excess of £3000.

  • The problem is getting worse, the tree is no encroaching the master bedroom window, which is now starting to restrict the light.

You can clearly see from the photos that the branches are over the top of the house. When it is windy, the noise of the branches hitting the top of the house is extremely noisy and is waking up the young children.

As outlined in the first report, significant money has been spent on the property due to the branches hitting the side of the house.

I am yet to receive any update from the council regarding this issue
